Mahatma Gandhi's first Satyagraha experimented on the soil of holy land of Champaran, the land of Vishnu Gupt well knowm as Chanakya. The land of Balmiki Rishi who supported the upbringing of Sri Ram's children, Lava and Kusha, while drafting the story of Ram-Sita life naming it Ramayan. Later this holy land awakened Mahatma Gandhi and thus it become the starting point of India's independence movement.
Champaran meat, also known as Ahuna, handi meat, or batlohi, is a dish with its root from Champaran, a district of Bihar. Meat is marinated in a mix of mustard oil and ghee, garlic, onions, ginger with the paste of spices. The mouth of the handi is sealed with kneaded flour.
The Culture & Heritage
Lord Buddha had given his sermons here, in memory of which in the 3rd century BC, Priyadarshi Ashok made pillars and constructed stupas. After the decline of the Gupta Dynasty and the Pala Dynasty, the entire Champaran region, including Mithila, became subject to the Karnat dynasty.
